On Wednesday 11.12.13 Alfons Håkans acquired the Estonian towage company AS PKL. PKL operates 14 tugs that are located in the following ports: Tallinn, Muuga, Sillamae and Paldiski in Estonia and Riga and Ventspils in Latvia. After the acquisition Alfons Håkans will operate over 40 tugs in Finland, Estonia and Latvia and will be the largest shipping company in Finland and the Baltic countries by the number of vessels operated.
“This acquisition is a remarkable part of our strategy to participate actively in the changing market situation of the towage industry in the Baltic Countries”, Chairman of the board of Håkans group, Stefan Håkans says. “This will support the growth target of the company towards becoming a major harbour towage and icebreaking operator in the Northern Baltic Sea and we see this as a positive change for our customers in Baltic countries.”
He explains that by ‘being a bigger operator means that we can invest more towards the safety of the shipping, high quality customer service and make sure that these services for our customers are provided on time. This acquisition enables synergies that will create more flexibility in positioning the tugs in the right place at the right time and will also benefit the entire logistic chain in the ports’.
The purchase was financed by SEB Bank Estonia and KPMG acted as advisors for Alfons Håkans.
